Zeus was declared king of the gods because he led the revolt against Cronos, and therefore became responsible for maintaining order in the cosmos. He had many lovers, and consequently many children including Athena, Persephone, Apollo, Artemis, Heracles and Dionysus. He was married to Hera (Juno).
